where we call home

Best sports bar in Denver. Great beers, local whiskeys. Cool staff. And they understand the sports fan – all the packages, many TVs, separate sections where you can get sound. It’s full speed sports bar heaven.

-Five-Star Yelp Review from Mike B.

Where to start? We are out of town from PA and came to a random sports bar to watch the Pens. Awesome crowd, awesome staff. Props to bartender Heather. Had some fries and they were excellent. Can’t beat the service and booze/food. What a welcoming experience to Denver!!!

Here at Society we are changing the way alumni from all over the country join together and watch their games. Just because you’re not at the stadium is no reason that you can’t have a game day experience that rivals sitting up in the cheap seats. So, we’d like you to join us at The Tailgate. We have cheap beer, rowdy fans, and game sound during all the games. We even play the school fight song after every touchdown. We support schools all over the country; Iowa State, Houston, and Arkansas have been enjoying the scene for a few years; Ole Miss and West Virginia are going to start calling Society home now as well. We always support our home teams with volume, drink specials, and amazing food. If you’d like to watch your game at the Tailgate, please call us so we can welcome you in style.

bragging rights

Not far from the Pepsi Center, where the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche reign, you’ll find Society Sports and Spirits tuned in to whatever game is on, be it basketball, NHL, or college sports. The alumni crowd is as diverse and as strong as they come, ready to cheer on the Cyclones, OSU Cowboys, or the Razorbacks—though perhaps with their indoor voices. “As sports junkies ourselves,” says owner Wil Evans, “we believe it’s of the utmost importance to be able to hear volume for your game.” This place also pulls for the home team behind the bar, with a diverse array of Colorado beers and more than 45 whiskeys produced in state. (Top 20 Sports bars in the country)

This place has gone through a recent name change, but what is cool is that you can tell the owners said “Whatever, dude. Just make the sign say ‘Whiskey’.”

This commitment to not messing around and just doing it right is why they’re the best in Denver.

With the best whiskey selection this side of heaven, and a “for us by us” Denver vibe, you have never been more at home. (Denver’s number 1 sports bar, 2014)

And Denver hosts many opportunities for doing just that, from sports bars to brewpubs, strip mall-dwelling chains to saloons that are as much art installation as watering hole. A favorite is Society Sports and Spirits, with a stenciled WHISKEY sign out front. It stocks dozens of Colorado labels. So many that when lined up on the bar, they become difficult to take in all at once. Not to mention the bar’s own varietals, aging in small wooden barrels, strange concoctions that are the brainchild of owner Will Evans.

On a recent night this summer, I sampled I-don’t-know-how-many of those house whiskeys. But I do know that Will joined in tasting each and every one, and that, at some point, he summoned forth from his kitchen thick-cut chicken fried bacon with a maple bourbon dipping sauce that in itself is enough of a reason to drop whatever you’re doing and hit the highway to middle America.

Have you ever wandered into your local sports bar to catch the game, only to find out that it’s played with no volume, so you miss most of the action anyway? Well at Society Sports and Sprits, that won’t be an issue, as the biggest draw here is that all the games are played with full volume, allowing you to get all the additional action while still enjoying the atmosphere of a fun, local sports bar. If you are seeking the bar that local sports lovers flock to for all the big games, then you’ll want to visit Society Sports and Spirits for some ice cold beer, yummy food and all the games you could ever want to see.

Society proudly claims, “We show all the games with volume!” The bar is known for its outstanding selection of whiskeys, and energetic, youthful crowd.

“Society is a great place to watch any team/sport on a huge variety of flat screen TVs,” Yelp user Terry L. said. “Very good beer selection including various bottle and taps, but the beverage of choice of course is WHISKEY!”

ociety, Denver Sports aside, Society may be the Mile High City’s biggest proponent of drinking local. The bar offers over 50 Colorado whiskeys alone, a healthy cocktail list and a slew of local beers. Society opened in time for the World Cup in 2014 and features imaginative distractions for those tired of staring at the television, like their foosball table.
